In 2022 we had the privilege to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. In the years leading up to our adventure we spent countless hours sifting through blogs and Youtube videos, trying to piece together the "perfect gear". We found everything from ultralight gear lists to budget friendly gear lists to not so budget friendly lists. We were overwhelmed by all of the different items people were bringing with them on trail. It was hard to discern what was truly necessary.

However, after a few short weeks on trail we made a number of changes to what we were carrying. As it turns out there is no such thing as the "perfect gear". Instead, what mattered most was having the right gear to support the type of hiking you want to do.

It was important to us to have gear that not only made us comfortable while hiking and at camp, but also enhanced the overall experience of our hike. To do this we had to be okay with carrying a bit of extra weight. Let me tell you, it was worth it.
